Choosing who will guide you in an ayahuasca ceremony is one of the most important decisions you will make. This page introduces Thiago Lourenço, curandeiro and founder of the Santuário Jardim de Gaia in Brasília, Brazil, and explains how he works with people who come from abroad.

Who is Thiago Lourenço?

Thiago Lourenço is an ayahuasca healer (curandeiro ayahuasqueiro) who studied with healers in Brazil and Peru. He works within Andean and shamanic traditions, with ayahuasca and other master plants, sacred songs and a universalist approach: people of any faith, or none, are welcome, and there is no dogma or doctrine to follow.

In 2019 he founded the Santuário Jardim de Gaia in Brasília, Brazil’s capital, together with a team that includes Aline, who also leads women’s circles and self-knowledge practices. Thiago speaks English and Spanish.

Where is the Sanctuary?

The Sanctuary is in the Jardim Botânico region of Brasília, a green area of cerrado (the Brazilian savanna) near the Botanical Garden of Brasília and the Lago Sul neighbourhood. It is a quiet setting surrounded by nature, usually around half an hour by car from Brasília International Airport (BSB), depending on traffic. The exact address is shared after the first conversation.

How a ceremony works at Jardim de Gaia

  1. Welcome conversation: before your first ceremony, you talk with Thiago about your intention, your life moment, your health and every medication you take. This is when he decides, together with you, whether it is the right time.
  2. Preparation: you receive guidance about diet and what to bring.
  3. The ceremony: the group gathers, the space is opened, the medicine is served with care, and the work is held with sacred songs, music and silence.
  4. Closing and sharing: at the end there is time to rest and, for those who wish, to share.
  5. Integration: you can talk with Thiago after the ceremony to help make sense of what you lived.

What Thiago will not do

Following Brazilian guidelines for the ritual use of ayahuasca (CONAD Resolution No. 1/2010), the Sanctuary does not sell ayahuasca, does not offer tourist packages with promised effects and does not promise healing. Ayahuasca is approached as a spiritual practice. It does not replace medical, psychological or psychiatric care.

Also at the Sanctuary: cacao ceremonies

Besides ayahuasca ceremonies, the Sanctuary also holds cacao ceremonies, a gentle, non-psychedelic heart practice that many visitors enjoy as a first contact with the space.
